Show DEATH OF HEBEB P KIMBALL Another of the Pioneers Gone to His Final Rest Heber P Kimball one of the best known of Utahs pioneer business men died at his residence on East Temple street in the Eighteenth Ward Sunday Sun-day at 11 oclock am His friends and acquaintances were in a measure prepared for the sad announcement as Mr Kimball had long been prostrated with dropsy the disease which caused his death Heber Parley Kimball was the son of the late Heber C and Violate Kimball and was born in Kirtland Ohio June his 1st fiftieth 1835 and year was at consequently the time of his nearing death He was only thirteen years of age at the time he arrived in Utah so that he is justly entitled to be classed in the rank of the pioneers His early manhood was passed amid all the struggles and privations of the first settlers here and his courage ability and hardy spirit made him a leader in many of the measures devised for the common welfare wel-fare and defense He took an active part in the old local military organization organiza-tion and was colonel in the Territorial militia His military career notably on Indian expeditions and what is remembered I remem-bered as the Morrisite capture was marked by bravery good conduct and I strict observance of orders As a rule he preferred the society of his men to that of the officers and for that reason was respected by those of his command In the early days he devoted much time to freighting from California and from the Missouri river and several years assisted as-sisted the emigration trains across the plains When the Utah Western railroad rail-road was projected he entered largely into the construction of the line by taking a large amount of stock and for about four years he held the position of superintendent of the road He was one of the executors of the large estate left by his father Henry W Lawrence being the only other and the manipulations of the effects and their successful distribution among the numerous heirs duties that largely fell to deceased were marked by the utmost fairness justice and clearsightedness Just previous to his death Mr Kimball i had been engaged in the business of I stock raising to which he had given most of his attention of late He also leaves considerable real estate in this city Deceased was married to Ph beT I Judd in 1855 he leaves a widow three girls and four boys to mourn his loss The funeral service will take place from the residence today at 1 oclock All friends of deceased and family are I respectfully requested to be present at the obsequies I |
