Show 0 R H S STUDENT STUDENT activities S 0 lecture given at the special assembly wednesday n afternoon an attentive student body listened to the most education aland by far the most moat interesting lecture given at the R H S this year the lecture given by lee ray kay the educational director from the state fish and game department included a most vivid story about the struggle of plant life to exist on earth and an exciting account of his thrilling expedition down the green river his lecture was accompanied by moving pictures illustrating his talk mr kay explained how the plants gradually grew in variety and number until they had beautifully covered all the earth where soil and climate permitted their existence man alan he said has in fifteen years laid waste to thousands of square miles of beautiful plant covered areas which will take nature thousands of years to replace he also pointed out the importance of plants in preventing floods and preserving the rich soil of the state mr kays story of the green river expedition was filled with adventure he left on his trip down the river with a group of friends in two small boats with food and equipment to last them a month their voyage began at the utah wyoming state line and covered miles of the rivers course taking 10 days to be completed the country which they traversed was vas very wild rugged peaks and jagged rocky shore lines predominating throughout the journey here wild life roamed the mountains undisturbed by man among the interesting animals he pictured in his films there was the mountain goat which they succeeded s uc after much difficulty in cornering and taking into captivity the river was filled with dangerous almost impassable aap iap rapids covering treacherous rocks which threatened at any time to shatter their small frail boats it was only with the greatest skill in handling their boats th that at the party was able to come through with their lives |
