Show Police Hunt Hit-Run Car; Victim Dies Accident Mars Clear Record Of County For Traffic Fatilities The body of Ben Alvorez, about 40, of Whitney, was found early Sunday morning beside U. S. highway high-way No. 91 about one-half mile south of Preston, where he apparently ap-parently had been struck and killed kill-ed by a hit-run automobile. Mr. Alvorez apparently was walking toward Whitney from Preston on the right side of the road when he was struck by the car. The body was thrown or dragged 48 feet from the apparent point of the impact, reported investigating in-vestigating officers. The victim apparently died instantly in-stantly of a skull fracture, physicians physi-cians reported. Bruises on the calf of the right leg, face and chest indicated in-dicated that he had been knocked down, then dragged along the highway. high-way. It was the first Franklin county traffic fatality and the first hit-run driving accident in the county this year. The body was discovered at about 6:30 a. m. by Cecil Taylor and Jack Davis, drivers of an interstate in-terstate oil transport truck. They notified Leo Beckstead, Preston police officer. Investigating officers offi-cers included Sheriff Lee Hansen, State Patrolman Harry Dabbling and Coroner Mses Hancey. Condition of the victim's clothing cloth-ing and his bruises indicated that !ie had been dragged for several feet along the road, although he might also have been thrown by the impact, Patrolman Dabbling said said. Mr. Alvorez, a Mexican laborer, had liyed with friends in Whitney seveal years He has a wife and two children in Mexico and also brothers whose names were not learned. Funeral services were arranged by the Richards and Son mortuary. |
