Show TED JOHNSON, local distance dis-tance runner, who yesterday smashed Marathon record at Denver. SALT LAKER WINS MARATHON I DENVER Special to The Tribune. DENVE-B, Colo., Mar 30. Tod Johnson of Salt Lake today finished first in tin: Rocky Mountain marathon raoe conducted by a Denver newspaper, newspa-per, liandilv trimming 2 minutes 49 2-5 seconds off the record for the course, with his time of 1 hour 4 minutes -11 o-o seconds. All of the first five men finished under un-der last vear's record of 1 hour 7 minutes min-utes 31 'seconds, made by Garwood Burkett. Johnson easilv led the picked held ot fortv-three athletes who took the road at Littleton a few seconds after 9:47 o'clock. Only once was he headed. This was when Clvdo Owens of the I'mversity of Colorado, who finished second, took the lead. Johnson let himself out and passed Owens. After tbat his place was never in danger. The start was made at 9:47:18 2-0 o'clock and Johnson finished fin-ished precisely at 10:52. . Close behind him w-ere Owens. iTed Duncan of Littleton, M. E. Taylor of Denver. Paul Deeds of Denver universitv univer-sitv and William Scott of Farmincton, N 'M, ''the man in overalls.'' All finished fin-ished under last year's record, official time being taken onlv on the first live, however. Then came the field, rhirty-two rhirty-two men making official finishes under the time limit of an hour and a halt set for the course. |
