has boen been laboring in the canadian mission field the past neveal months we are always glad to publish letters or of this kind as we know tho friends and relatives of the young men are always interested in what they are experiencing in the mission field it has just been twenty one months since I 1 arrived in the mission field where I 1 was assigned to labor I 1 in n the mission field where I 1 was assigned to labor in tho the nova scotia district where I 1 spent nineteen of the most enjoyable months that I 1 have ever spent the name nova scotia means new scotland and we find that in parts of the province here people have the same ideas and also the same dress as the people in scotland which make it very peculiar and also very interesting to me I 1 was transferred two months ago and assigned to labor in new hampshire which Is known tor for its scenic wonders as well as a few scones of history such as the great c stone face in the white mountains and the merrimac Merrl mac river where a number ot of battles took place it has been my privilege to visit these places of interest and others ethers such as state capital c buildings national museums art galleries etc I 1 have also had the privilege of visiting surrounding state 8 where we have visited old forts and i battlefields of the revolutionary war perhaps the crowning feature of my missionary experience has hali been my recent trip through massachusetts connecticut and the state of new yorito palmyra to attend the L D S centennial conference held at the joseph smith home beginning july july 25 9 5 1 I thought it might be of interest to my friends and tho the members of the ae panguitch Pan gultch stake to know that I 1 attended his conference and met missionaries sion aries darles from our stake and also the surrounding towns wo we were weke all extremely happy to meet there and express our appreciation tor for what the mission missionfield field h has done for us it was a real thrill and an inspiration to visit visit the joseph smith home where part of the book of mormon was translated and where the angel moroni appeared to joseph smith tho the sacred grove and the hill Cu where so many wonderful events transpired and where mormonism received its origin and birth no less interesting were the events and meetings of th econ terence the same feel feeling ilig of iv welcome elcome and hospitality reigned as in other gatherings of latter day saints we felt highly favored to have with us elder B H roberts from salt lake city friday july 25 was devoted to elders meetings and work pertaining to their missions A very inspiring meeting was held by elder B H roberts saturday morning the pilgrimage to the hill Cu was very impressive there belg being about two hundred or more present we were greatly thrilled as aa the congregation arose and on that sacred place sang an angel I 1 from on high elder roberts then explained the great events which had transpired there and how bow happy he was to know that at the present time the church owned the hill Cu and other sacred places here in the east mrs margaret browning internationally known opera singer and a member of the brooklyn branch then sang oh my father at 1100 a meeting ot of the relief society ty was held in the sacred grove at the opening of this meeting the cengr congregation degation sang that well known hymn joseph smiths first prayer composed by george mainwaring of salt lake city much wasl wad wd concerning the relief society and what it hat hah accomplished since its organization president moyle stated that it if Is the greatest on of 0 f szn women in the world today 1 A re report or t of the relief society of the eastern states mission was very ably given by one of the lady missionaries of that 04 mis mission slon A very splendid pageant followed this report b by Y sisters from different districts of that m mission aslon eternal womanhood the afternoon meeting was held in the sacred grove and a very interest ang discourse the pilgrimage of the plo pioneers n aers was delivered by president charles H hart of the canadian sion ho brought to our attention the te giriat sac sacrifices our forefathers made for the gospels sake the cents cente elal pageant footprints aon on the snag of time was hold held in the evening on the east side of the joseph smith tarm farm which was very interesting to all those present on sunday centennial day meeting was held in the sacred grove two wery wonderful testimonials were borne by drs harvey pletcher fletcher and francis kirkham of the new york branch miss norma barns a lady missionary spoke very appreciatively on out standing characters of the book of mormon at t the afternoon session brother roberts gave the crowning address of the conference his subject being what god hath wrought As he closed this very touching ser mon in the sacred grove he offered a prayer to our lord in thanks for this great work restored his white hair hat and wonderful kind face grown old in the service of the church presented a picture one could never forget this great privilege will be one of the gold posts along lifes highways highway for we that attended and a lasting memory and a joy to know we are connected with an organization that thai has gr grown i own from six members to such immense numbers surely the message that the boy Iro prophet phet gave to the world was no myth and tho the work must go on until its destiny Is fulfilled A As we left the icene scene of 0 this sacred spot wn wa felt that our testimonies had been strengthened as they never could have been in any ober cher time or place may we in this generation genera revere and honor this great beri heritage tage and beable bo able to carry on oil faithfully and diligently the work so nobly and successfully cess fully started thus fulfilling our part in the new slogan on with mormon ideals i am taking this opportunity of thanking you from the bottom of my
