Show Thousands Enlisted With thousands of western motorists enlisted in the new, (Share-the-Road clulb, traffic authorities aut-horities are enthusiastic over the tremendous response to this crusade for commonsense driving. They hail the result today as evidence evi-dence that the great majority of motorists want to obey traffic rules and drive courteously, as contrasted with the "screwdriver" who disobeys regulations, causes congestion, and creates opportunities opportuni-ties for accidents. "It is heartening to see how local motorists are enthusiastically cooperating in . this worthwhile drive", is the comment of L. A. Wynaught, local manager for Shell Oil Company, Incorporated. The crusade has been undertaken under-taken because "screwdrivers" are everywhere in the business district, dis-trict, in the residence district, and out on the highway. They are the motorists without manners. They are the cutter-inners and the sud-. sud-. den stoppers, the double-parkei-s and the traffic light jumpers When you see them at home or on foot, they are welUbehaved, likable people, but put them behind the iwheel of a car and they become selfish ami ill-mannered, acting as if the streets were made for their exclusive use. Traffic experts say that if traffic traf-fic "boners" can be eliminated the amount of expensive stop-and-go driving will be reduced by at least 25 and that will mean money saved to every motorist who realizes rea-lizes how costly stop-and-go driving driv-ing can be. To help reduce stop-and-go driving driv-ing Shell dealers are cooperating in the crusade by distributing em-Iblems em-Iblems of the Share-the-Road club to all motorists who will assist in the plan. When this handsome gold emblem is 6een above the rear license plate of a car, it tells other motorists that the driver is willing to "share the road". All motorists are invited to join the Share-the-Road club and to call at Shell dealers' stations for their attractive emblem. |
