Show t Answer To Community Problems Found In Long Range Planning By Chester H. Spink v Staff Writer-Photographer Utah Centennial Beautification Division A beautiful, well - planned community requires as much individual in-dividual responsibility as a beautiful, beau-tiful, well-planned home. It cannot can-not be allowed to develop and wander at will without resulting in waste and poor environment. Hundreds of Roosevelt residents resi-dents chorus, "We know that is true, but what can we do about a next door neighbor who refuses re-fuses to clear up a yard jammed with broken down auto bodies, broken down rabbit hutches and old lumber piled about in helter skelter mess?" "We can take steps toward belter living and a cleaner community com-munity by such programs as the spring beautification clean-up drive, but we need a long range program that will continue the drive. Although cooperation was good during the beautification clean-up, our irresponsible citizens citi-zens did very little, and their property lends a sordid, ugly environment to the neighborhood neighbor-hood that is a bad influence on our daily lives." Tourists entering Roosevelt from the east are certainly not favorably impressed by the weed-ridden, fallen down buildings, build-ings, which give an erroneous impression of the community's civic pride. Tourists are important import-ant to Roosevelt. They should be induced to stop and patronize Roosevelt's business district, to visit her resort areas. The gulch in the same section of town, in its present sad-appearing condition, condi-tion, presents a potential municipal munici-pal park site, and recreational spot that would not only improve the community's appearance, but would also provide a safe play and recreation area for both children chil-dren and adults. Utah, as a state, is continuing its campaign to lure more vacationists vaca-tionists into the state and into evcry community in the state. American people, always vacation vaca-tion minded, are spending an average of 7 per cent of their in- come for vacations to make the tourist business the fastest growing grow-ing in the United States. Every additional tourist, attracted to a stopover in Roosevelt,' : brings more dollars to the entire conv munity. . There is an answeito every community problem, tobe found in a planning group arid expert advice from a planrJngl consultant. consul-tant. If an appeal t6the responsible respon-sible party does not bring results, re-sults, the expert planner may advise ad-vise resort to zoning laws. Where an appeal to personal responsibility responsi-bility fails, a law and enforcement enforce-ment will bring results. Democracy Democ-racy does not mean one person should be allowed to detract from the beauty of an entire block because of his lack of responsibility. |
