Show FIGURES DO NOT LIE; IT IS TIME TO. BOOST. Many Bait Lake merchants hare i decried the J proposed ."Boost-trs' ."Boost-trs' Excursions' now being Arged by1 certain men who are alive to the Interests of the city. A' practical illustration of the fact that these excursions do pay is found in the' result accomplished by the Denver boosters who were here last week. According to the Denver Den-ver Post the following are' the figures of the trip: "Distance traveled, trav-eled, 2103 miles; money spent, 10,000; number in party, ninety-. ninety-. three. - Five hundred thousand dollars worth of goods were .sold by. the merchants to new customers in tne towns of the Northwest. E. B. Hendrie of the Hendrie & Boltboff Machinery company contracted; contract-ed; for big mining drills; Charles . Onderdonk sold three boilers 1 an every merchant in the party took' orders for a tremendous lot of goods without having to solicit a minute. The customers made ap- , plications to make the purchases." These figures show that while iu the aggregate the expense of the trip was large, taken individually it is small, averaging about 1107.50 per man for a trip that covers five days, including fares, berths, meals and refreshments. The expense is less than that of the average traveling man on a similar trip, and when it is considered consid-ered that HALF A MILLION DOLLARS' WORTH OF NEW BUSINESS WAS SECURED FOR AN EXPENSE OF $10,000, AN EVEN 2 PER CENT OF THE SALES, IT WILL BE SEEN THAT THE TRIP WAS A CHEAP. ONE. " . ' I . It is time that the self-satisfied men of Salt Lake wakened to a sense of their responsibilities. They may have enough of this world's goods to satisfy themselves, but they owe a duty to their city and to their successors in business, and it is up to them to per-form per-form that duty. ' ; j THE ONE WAY IS BY PERSONAL ACQUAINTANCE AND l A BOOSTERS' EXCURSION IS THE WAY. TO ACCOMPLISH "1 IT. i , - I Let some live man awake to ihe possibilities of Salt Lake as . Xee Heney was of those of Denver, take this matter up and push it . to a successful conclusion. . , : |
