Show Register for Book 4 in October Exact dates and places for registration reg-istration for War Ration Book Four, which will take place during the latter part of October, can be obtained from local newspapers or radio stations. Persons registering regis-tering must have a War Ration Book Three for each person for whom they obtain Book Four. Stamps labeled "coffee" in Book Four were printed before coffee rationing was discontinued. Any rumor that it is to be resumed are unfounded, OPA says. Farm Labor Situation Helped Three hundred thousand more men of military age were put on farm work during the first six months of this year than in the same months of 1942, because of draft deferment and other measures meas-ures taken' to conserve agricultural agricul-tural labor. This number was sufficient suf-ficient to offset net losses of workers of military age from farms during the last half of 1942. according to the Department of Agriculture. Gals to get Bobbie Pins Twice as many bobbie pins and hairpins, "necessary femine items to wear," will be produced during 1944 as at present, under a recent WPB action. Community Service Release 55. "Tailoring" of war ration book four by removal of stamps for excess ex-cess stocks of processed goods on the pantry shelves of consumers will be required when the new book is issued on October 27, 28 and 29 at schools of the state, said Hamer S. Culp, chairman of the Salt Lake City war price and rationing board this week. Office of Price Adminstration executive give three reasons for this change in policy: the saving of time effected for the public; the shortage of paid and voluteer labor, la-bor, and the fact that the excess of processed goods held by the consumer has been reduced to a negligible point. Rumors that coffee is to be rationed ra-tioned again are unfounded, the chairman said. The new books will contain stamps marked "coffee," but only because printing started months before the decision was made to supend coffee rationing. With stocks in the United States increasing steadily and the outlook out-look for imports favorable, the need for coffee rationing in the future appears remote. All holders of war ration books are urged by the board chairman to check the information asked for on the front cover. An ar-rangment ar-rangment has been made with the post office department whereby finders of lost books may drop them without envelope or wrapper wrap-per in the mail. A postage due charge of only five cents will be made for this service when the book is delivered to the owner. If the address of the owner' is incorrect in-correct or missing, the chairman said, "this plan to save time and , money for the government will fail." Sportsmen were benefited this week when the OPA set ceiling prices on ammunition for civilian j use. Shotgun shells of standard size must sell at or below $1.38 per box or seven cents a shell and .30-.30 and .30 caliber rifle amunition at $1.46 per box or nine cents a shell. Shells of other sizes have proportionate ceilings. Individuals as well as dealers must comply with this regulation. |
