Show Feminine Veterans of Foreign Wars? Change of 'Men Only' Rule Discussed The distaff side of the war was a problem at the 44th national convention conven-tion of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States held in New York when the question of admitting admit-ting women to membership came up for a decision. Eligibility to the organization has been based on overseas service in any war, campaign or armed expedition expe-dition for which the United States 1 issues campaign medals. It has been limited to "officers and men." Such limitation was unquestioned until recently. re-cently. In this war, creation of the WACs, WAVES, SPARS, women marines, ma-rines, and army and navy nurses' corps adds new fuel to a fire that was only smoldering prior to the present war when overseas nurses were the only group dernanding admission ad-mission on an equal basis with men. |
