Even though there are many recreation centers across the valley, there is one that is a close commute for students. The Health and Wellness Center (HWAC) is located behind the Shaw student building. HWAC was opened February 2006, even though HWAC is still pretty new to campus they are always planning on having new events and classes, as far as plans for the future, those will include new programming and keeping a variety of activities. We hope to be able to focus on wellness programming in the future as well said Traci Siriprathane, director of fitness, wellness, and recreation. There are many things that HWAC offers to not only help you stay in shape but to also provide you with something to do. HWAC offers an assortment of classes and activities such as, Personal Training, Pilates Reformer Classes, Swim Instruction and 30 group exercise classes a week, said Siriprathane. Here are a few descriptions of the different things HWAC has to offer. 4 It I Personal Training Even though it isnt 90 degrees outside, it doesnt mean that you cant still go swimming. Even though youre inside, it doesnt mean that it has to feel like it. There are windows along side of the pool which helps bring natural light in. The swimming pool provides space for lap swimming, aquatic classes or swimming lessons. With finals week coming up swim- ming may not be the relaxation youre looking for. To help relax there is also a spa that you can sit in and let the stress , melt away. Beginning your goal in health and wellness doesnt have to start with personal training, there are many other t I f f ) f I I itd be like to go rock climbing but lack the experience? HWAC has a climbing wall that is feet high, if youre a beginner forty-si- x that may seem a little daunting. HWAC does offer climbing wall instructional classes so you can learn the basics and make sure youre climbing safely. Ever wonder what Cardiovascular To help stay active during this winter season you can hire a personal trainer to stay motivated. The price for one hour session for a student and their spouse partner is $30 for one session, $168 for six sessions, $312 for twelve sessions or $432 for eighteen sessions. Brian Hin, a personal trainer in HWAC says, Its building the relation- Exercise Studio Aquatic Center If the aquatic center or climbing wall isnt what youre looking for, HWAC offers thirty-on- e pieces of cardiovascular equipment which ranges from treadmills to stair climbers. The cardiovascular section of HWAC provides a variety of equipment to work out on which provides variety in your workout. The equipment overlooks either the swimming pool or the climbing wall which provides something for you to look at while working out. 1 A yoga class practhe triangle ticing pose. With everything else thats high quality in HWAC of course there would need to be a great place to hold classes. Classes range from yoga to Zumba to turbo kick. Yoga is a great way to help relieve stress especially with the semester coming to a close. Yoga provides great breathing techniques to help strengthen the muscles and ways to improve your posture. Zumba is a new dance workout that has easy to follow dance moves while dancing to Latin rhythms. Turbo kick is the evolution of kickboxing which is inspired by dance, Tae and funk this Kwon Do, boxing, tai-c- hi class is designed to give you the ultimate cardiovascular workout according to the Group Exercises brochure provided by HWAC. There are many options available to stay or become active during the winter.
