Show "Worth the walk" Staff review: Soup Kitchen Jason Dunnigan Staff Writer minute walk to 11th E. and youll find yourself walking into a smell that doesnt seem pleasant at first, but grows on you after a taste of amazing food. I am talking about The Soup Kitchen. I decided that I wouldnt go there alone, so I took some friends with me and we all decided that we would share everything so that we could get a good variety of what The Soup Kitchen has to offer. The Soup Kitchen has been in Sugar House for 34 years. With snow and rain in the forecast expect to see a constant line for their amazing homemade soups made fresh daily. Its set up where you walk in and there are chalk boards that have everything the make with prices. The soup of the day is different every day, but Monday. They dont offer one on Monday. Shauna DeBoe has been working there for 23 years and is currently the manager. She was able to help me decide on what sandwich to order and what soup would go best with it. The S.K.S. Soup Kitchen Special is the most popular sandwich we have, said DeBoe. Its like a B.L.T. and you can get a cup of chicken noodle with it. My friend, Amy Jenkins, ordered the grilled cheese with their creamy tomato soup, which is actually vegetarian friendly. What I love about the grilled cheese is that its easy and simple, but its always so good here, said Jenkins. Plus, you have to get grilled cheese and tomato soup. They go together like peanut butter and jelly, but for the fall. Another friend of mine, Valerie Henriksen, ordered the SLC Cheese Steak, which comes with a bag of chips. She got the cheddar cheese and broccoli soup to go along with her sandwich. With every cup of soup comes two bread sticks of your choice. They offer wheat, garlic, and cheese. My personal favorite was the wheat bread sticks dipped in the cheese or tomato soups. I love the garlic bread sticks because they are super garlicky and salty, said Henriksen. Even though each of us ordered our own things we were able to share and try from each other. I love coming here because you get warmed up and everything I have ordered is always so good, said Jenkins. After finishing our soups and sandwiches we couldnt go without dessert. So we decided we would try a piece of the carrot cake and a fresh scone with honey and butter. The ends are my favorite, said Henriksen as she tried the fresh scone brought to our table. The carrot cake is dowsed with cream cheese frosting that wasnt too strong, but just enough so youll still have some for those left over crumbs that are sitting on the plate. You can always call in your order so that way you dont have to stand in fine and it will all be ready for you as you walk in the door, said DeBoe. I had heard about The Soup Kitchen and driven by it every time I am running late to class, but never took the time to stop. It is worth it and I would recommend it to anyone. Plus, the pricing is very college-stude- nt friendly and the variety makes it easy to satisfy even the pickiest of A simple Grilled Cheese Esf Cheese Steak Tomato soup & Cheese soup five eaters. So when you feel like you need to warm up with a fresh sandwich and cup of soup, walk on down to The 11:00 Soup Kitchen. They are open Monday-Saturda- y a.m. to 8:00 p.m. I promise you, its worth the walk, f Is V .
