Show Volume II, Issue XIII THE OGDEN VALLEY NEWS Page 13 1 July 2000 Sports News Ogden Valley Athletes Bring Home the Gold Recently five Valley soccer players each received a 1st Place gold medal at the 15th Annual Utah Summer Games. The games were held June 15 through the 17. Valley players included Skyler Boyington, Liberty; Jacob Burton, Huntsville; Clint Child, Huntsville; Brady Fuller, Eden; and Ben Garrison, Eden. The winning players are members of the Warriors soccer team, which competed in the U16 Boys Division at the Summer Games. The team, coached by Todd Honstein from North Ogden, has been playing together for about three years. The team had some well fought and skillfully played games, finally defeating the FC Pride team from Roy, and the Silverwolves from Plain City. In preliminary play, the Warriors were defeated by the Layton Strikers, but made an upsetting come back in the semi-finals, defeating the Strikers in an exciting return match. The Warriors moved on, taking the championship with a 3-to-1 win against the Weber Storm. Warriors team members from North Ogden are Steve Bronson, Sean Davis, Josh Gardner, Wade Hammond, Ben Honstein, Jesse Johnson, Jeff Peterson, Gordon Ridley, Jake Sessions and Jordan West. Soccer has become the largest team sport at the annual Summer Games. According to Cedar City Summer Games officials, 150 teams and 2500 players participated in the soccer events during a three-day period. Local team members represented the Valley well, exhibiting their talents and dedication to the game of soccer. Congratulations to all the Warriors players for such an outstanding performance at the Summer Games, and good luck and continued success to them as they move into the 2000 summer tournament season. Huntsville Annual 4th of July Mini-Mini-Marathon Huntsville is having their annual 4th of July mini-mini-marathon. Marathon Chairman Vern Iverson says that this year’s event is going to have a 5K and 10K race along with a 1-mile fun run/walk. The fun run is a great activity for the entire family. The young kids really get a kick out of running it. The races will start at 7:00 a.m.— hopefully before it gets too hot! A reg- istration fee will include a T-shirt and a free breakfast right after the race in the Huntsville Park. Any profit will be used to benefit the Huntsville Park. There will be male and female divisions, with different age groups in each category. So get the old running shoes out and come join us for a fun race. For more information please call Vern Iverson at 745-0641. Local Youth Makes Hole in One Seventeen-year old Brigham Burton of Huntsville shot a hole in one on May 26 at Nordic Valley Golf. The resort honored his achievement with a free round of golf. Burton made the hole in one on number six on par three playing in a foursome with brothers Matthew and Spencer Burton and John Richards. The hole in one was made with a seven-iron. Brigham is a graduate of Weber High School, and is the son of Jeffry and Linda Burton. Licensed Contractor Delbert Morris P.O.
