In staging the revival, modern mod-ern techniques were substituted sub-stituted for ancient methods, meth-ods, among the innovations being skillful lighting effects. ef-fects. At left, these "warriors" "war-riors" are warming up for their roles in the drama. Stars of the trilogy by Aeschylus were ably supported sup-ported by a brilliant cast of Greek players. O The second play of the trilogy "Che-ophorae" "Che-ophorae" opens with this meeting (below) of Orestes and Electro, son and daughter of Agamemnon at the foot of their murdered mur-dered father's tomb. Looking on are Electro's Elec-tro's slaves. Seldom have the Greek revivals been presented on such a scale and with such success as the 1949 revival. ft . .v3 ' I !' Q King Agamemnon enters (above) and with him is hapless Cassandra, a Trojan princess he has brought home as a trophy. Nimble hands of Greek maidens spent many busy hours weaving weav-ing the heavy fabrics from which dresses were designed for the main characters in the drama. A gentleman very obviously ob-viously of the modern age helps three "ancient Greeks" with their lines before dress rehearsal (right). The bearded character char-acter second from left is the ill-fated Agamemnon, liing of Argos, around whom the play revolves. Below, this scene from "Orestia" shows the messenger mes-senger who brought the glad tidings of the victory of t h e Greeks over the Trojans as he hugs the ground of his home town, Argos, which he sees for the first time in 10 years. i XMx - liifcAl j 111,, ' ' "vfU ' - jtt i xJ. ,j |
