Show XEATH OF GEORGE TAYLOR, j FIRST MAYOR OF EPHRAIM Ephraim, Dec. 11. George Taylor, ! a pioneer resident of this city, passed I away at the home of his daughter, ' Mrs. Elizabeth Kjelson, this morning morn-ing after an illness of only three days death being due to pneumonia. Mr. Taylor was a pioneer of 1859. He was the son of Thomas and Hannah Han-nah Taylor, and was born in Wood-borough, Wood-borough, Nottinghamshire, England, March 16, 1830. He was raised on a farm, having been baptized in March, 1853, he started for Utah, arriving in Salt Lake City, October lb, 1853. In 1856 he returned to England on a two-years' mission. In the fall of 185 9 ! he located at Manti and next spring came to Ephraim which has since been his home. He learned the trade of sawyer, and followed it until 1895. He was elected the first mayor of Ephraim and held the office three terms. He was a member of the legislature legis-lature in 1868-69-70. He took an active ac-tive part in the Black-Hawk war, and served as bishop's counselor for a number of years. He married Mary A. Quinn, and seven children resulted from their union, in Mary, Harriet, George, Eli- ; abeth, Thomas, Zina and Precinda. ' His wife died about 15 years ago and he married Mrs., Jens Larsen, who died about six months ago. |
