The speech in the reichstag reich-stag of the imperial chancellor, Dr. von Bethmanu-Hollweg, reviewing the military, political and economic progress prog-ress of events, and his reply to a So cialist interpellation declining to Initiate Ini-tiate peace negotiations, were the features fea-tures of the day's news on Thursday throughout Europe. Following closely Premier Asquith's somewhat similar reply to a question in the British house of commons by Philip Snowden, Socialist, the chancellor's chancel-lor's speech has completely dashed any hopes the peace advocates may have held on an early termination of the war.
