Show jBoy Slays Man And Kills I Self For Father's Pledge GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., Jan. 5.-(UP) 5.-(UP) Determined that the prohibition prohi-bition pledge given his mother eight years ago, by his father, should not be broken again, Orrln Hoover, 17-year-old high . school junior, removed the menace to that promise by killing Joseph Skab-lauckas, Skab-lauckas, 38. Then, according to the theory constructed con-structed by police, he turned his gun on himself and committed suicide. Eight years ago Hoover's father promised his wife, Mrs. Margaret Hoover, he never would touch liquor again. For six years, up to the time of her death, Hoover faithfully faith-fully kcDt the pledge. ' I Later, however, he began drink- ing again and Orrin, a shy, bashful I youth, brooded and grieved. Believing Skablauckas and his wife to be furnishing his father . with whiskey, Orrin mapped out his plan of action and successfully carried car-ried it out Thursday midnight. Orrin went to the home of Skablauckas Skab-lauckas and then pounded on the back door, whereupon the owner and Mrs. Skabloukas investigated. After a few words young Hoover drew a revolver and shot Skablauckas Skab-lauckas through the heart. Then Hoover turned the gun on himself. His body was found by deputies a short distance from the house, with the revolver nearby. |
