Show . DEATH COMES TO MIXING MAGNATE David Keith, one of Utah's foremost fore-most figures for many years, and a brother-in-law of Mrs. Dan H. Ferguson Fer-guson of Milford, died of double pneumonia at 12:30 o'clock Wednesday Wednes-day morning in his suite in the Hotel Utah; David Keith was born at Mabou, Cape Breton, Canada, in 1847. There he received his scholastic training, remaining at home until he was 14 years of age. Then it was that he decided to see something of the world and left home, going to the Isaac Harbor gold diggings in Nova Scotia. He was employed in the mines there as well as at other occupations oc-cupations for the following five years. When 19 years of age he went on another exploring trip, first going to the Pacific coast and then spending a year prospecting in the Sierra Garde country, in California, and finally wound up his travels in Virginia City, Nevada. Those were the days of the famous Comstock lode, and at Caledonia, Ney., he had charge of the Caledonia mines. From there he took charge of the Overman shaft. He remained In Nevada, engaged almost all the time in mining and prospecting, until un-til 1883, when he abandoned that country and came to Utah. |
