OBITUARY MECHAM an aged and respected citizen of cannonville Cann onville garfield county samuel morrison mecham Me chami departed this life fife at 7 a in august fth 1887 after the brief illness of one hour of dropsy of the heart bear he wits was born in erie county N Y april 1818 embraced the gospel while in his bis youth and removed to utah in the fall of 1849 settling in salt lake city after resi residing aing there and in adjacent towns lowns tor for a number of years he was called to southern utah where he be labored diligently he became came to cannonville Cann onville in december 1877 where he be has continued to reside until his demise his dying words to his children were abe be kind to your mother and remain firm and true in the kingdom ot of god these words ying being uttered his spirit took its flight brother mecham Alec liam survived the many and relentless persecutions that the early sai 1 1 ts passed through in the states of missouri misso u ri and illinois he was intimately acquainted with the prophet joseph smith was a member of the high priests quorum and the father tather of fourteen children nine of wham with his bis beloved wife are left to mourn his sudden departure I 1 CON COM ibm JARY crAy sox william clayson was born in the town of wilby Northampton shire england on february ath 1840 was wa baptized into the church of jesus christ of 0 latter day saints on may 1855 by elder mark lindsay Lind nay va cn october 1855 lie he was ordained to the office of a deacon by E elders id ers john barson and james sheffield in the Welling wellingborough borough branch Bedford shire conference on may he be was ordained a teacher in the same brand branch under the hands of win bailiff and james sheffield sometime some time after that he was ordained an elder and called to preside over the branch of the church which position lie he held up to the day of his departure tor for utah uc he emigrated with a company of saints sailing from liverpool on the snip ship manchester april arriving in utah in the fall of the same year he madenis made his home in payson and at once set to t work diligently to open the way for the deliverance from babylon of his bis parents and re whom he had loft left behind and through the blessing of god lad had the joy of seeing them all in zion and bidding them welcome to his home lie soon became identified with the payson choir and in 1804 became chorister ot of the same although very modest and unassuming his superior intellect his high sense of honor and integrity ity as well a as s his ability in the line of music ic soon brou brought him to the front and under his able and untiring teaching the payson choir and brass and string bands the latter two being organized by him and continued under his direction soon boon became creditable to the town he was also one of the leading men in our sab ab bath school from the beginning n and was one of the super superintendents t end ants for a number of years up to the time of lus has death anthe on the of july 1869 he be was ordained a devent seventy in the quorum and anthe on the idith of september 1886 he was called and set apart as one ne oi of the presidents of that quorum ile he ably filled the office ot cit city councillor until dis franchised by tile the remda edmunds law he died at his home in payson july jilly after an illness of three months ile he died as ho he had lived firm in the truth to the last and with an assurance of a glorious resurrection with the just his remains were followed to their last resting place by the largest funeral cortege ever seen in payson the brass band discoursed suitable music JR ia the procession and the choir sang atthe grave COM millennial I 1 star please copy PILLING at Kays kaysville ville davis county A august g u s t john job in pillin pilling 8 son 0 of edmund mui n d mid and ann campbeli campbell pit pilling g he was born at waddington yorkshire england february making him 91 01 years 6 months and 16 days old when he died he received the gospel through the labors of H 0 kimball and joseph fielding was baptized and confirmed by elder fielding february 84 1838 ordained to the office of a priest march 10 BS emigrated to the united states and settled at council bluffs iowa in 1850 and crossed the plains to utahn utah in 1853 settled at Hays haysville ville davis county at which place he resided till hi death lie he was oida ordained ined a high priest by president H HC C kimball in 1858 18 at salt lake cuy city he was faithful to the callings placed upon him and ana respected toy by all who knew him he has le left t a large posterity to follow after him lie he has bus gone to his resting place lace awaiting the resurrection of the just jast COM
