Trip Nationwide publicity will be given Sugar House when the Post 65 American Legion drum and bugle corps appears in San Francisco to compete in the na-Y na-Y tional championships in connec- tion with the annual Legion convention con-vention being held in the Bay City the. first week of October. The corps is practicing four times a week, and the week before be-fore departure will rehearse daily in preparation for the big event, according to Cbfford A. Husbands, corps manager. Since winning the state championship at the state convention at Price, the organization has been working work-ing tirelessly in preparation for the national meet where they will compete with crack ensembles ensem-bles from all sections of the country. h Right now they are trying to ' raise funls to provide new uni forms for the expedition, and their solicitation is worthy of the support of every Sugar House business concern. These fellows have since their organization organ-ization been right on hand io-every io-every local celebration and have contributed generously of their time and their talent whenever they have been called upon to perform for Sugar House. Just a couple of weeks ago they cancelled can-celled a scheduled rehearsal and on short notice traveled down to Murray to represent Sugar House in the parade opening the annual county fair. Mr. Husbands Hus-bands reports the uniform fund drive is progressing slowly and that some good contributions are needed to assure new outfits for the gang. In addition, five pretty drum majorettes headed by Virginia Grubb, add sparkle and glamor to the outfit. Virginia Vir-ginia and the other girls, Marilyn Mari-lyn Mills, Jackie Simons, Barbara Bar-bara Bukase and Elvera Dell, all daughters of post members, will all make the trip to San Francisco. Fran-cisco. The corps will be guests of the Dugway Legion group in Tooele county on Friday, Sept. 20. They will assemble in uniform uni-form at the Plaza at 7 p:m. that evening and be picked up by army vehicles and taken to Dugway. Dug-way. They plan to leave for San Francisco on Saturday, Sep.t 28. |
