Show from saturday s davy ewie 14 CITY COUNCIL the city council met in the city I hall Ogden June 13 1879 mayor L J herrick presiding minutes of former meeting were read and approved PETITIONS the following license were granted 11 M bond co produce and T C chamberlin hotel D alexander insurance sidney steren wagons and machinery W harri job wagon W II 11 meat burket M B tea cirlor pir lor ac adum johndon Joh noon liquor saloon A petition was received signed by co and 95 others asking the council to render such aid as aliey might deem proper in procuring fair grounds and the construction thereon of a track for driving purposes Beard iiley and zeigler were present and stated that two meetings had already been held by interested parties at the art of which a committee was appointed to ascertain where suitable ground could be obtained for the purposes named in the petition at the committee reported eliat on the bench east of lie cemetery was a tract of land unoccupied belonging to alio city eligibly located cor fair grounds and a driving park whereupon it was decided to petition the council to grant dy lease or otherwise the use of this ground to an association about to be formed under the title of the driving park association who would make all the needed improve menti and ornament alio grounds subject to arrangements arrange menta that might be entered into by the city and the lessee and to anny suggestions from alie city council referred to the committee on pub lie grounds A petition was read signed by J S levis and others representing that aliey pay licenses and dixe to maintain alie city government that residents of other cities come to ogden and sell damaged articles to the great detriment of alie petition ers vendor being of the city clothing bedding ac and disclose of the name regard to sanitary regulation mid goods not being fumigated might be the me ini of spreading disease eliat at such auctions trashy and worthless worth loss rub ih is gold to persons who are thereby deceived eliat by such occasional sales the ven avoid paying taxes to the amount which residents are obliged to any that alie money ro received hy said vendors is taken out of the city leaving it an avalen the petitioners petition ers ther fore prayed the council to measures mei aa may be deemed expedient to stop such auctions or to fix alie license for selling such goods by auction at a higher rate referred erred to alie committe on municipal lawf or committees the special committees appointed at a former meeting to negotiate for land for alie extension ex of seventh street reported that the interested parties liitt paid to the recorder for the purchase of the required land and recommended that the negotiation be and tin street opened report accepted recommendation adopted the committees com on public works reported eliat alie main and fourth street being pushed ly forward reported accepted the committee on streets that they had examined the matter of opening streets in alie eastern part of alio city ami were in favor of opening from green street a street running north to ogden arver and of opening second and seventh stift to ilie mountains keport accepted and alie commit tn instructed to continue their labors lt bors pi I for public labor were tim council adjourned till june 1879 to meet in the city at |
