Show AMUSEMENTS The Salt Lake theatre was very briiant last nlghtbrJlant as to play comp nand n-and audience The School for Scandal Is a comedy which loses none of its wit interest or charm with a ebut rather gains In all three when contrasted with many of our modern socaled comedies There Is a rare fragrance about its at mospherean elevated refined something which remains with us after we hae left the Theatre The well known characters were played last night by actors with almost equally well known namesa cast excellent throughout The part of Lady Teazel always suggests sug-gests the name of da Rehan with her peculiar chars and many affectations One of the most pleasing points of Miss Kidders delineation of this character was the simplicity with which she handled it She is a actress of rare discretion and the role of Lady Tenzel is one which Is particularly suited to her talents In cdentaJy she looked extremely well Mr James as Charles Surface had a most congenial role and was admirable throughout He was an Ideal represnta ton of the gay rivolous devlmaycare and soundhearted Charles To Mr arde as Joseph Is also due much praise for the handlng of this difficult role In makeup facial expression gesture and all the part was perfectly wrought out Mr Harry Langdon was I splendid Sir Peter and won favor In the famous quarrel quar-rel scenes Mr Barry Johnstone was Moses Mr rark Peters the Sir Oliver and Mr Thomas Coffin Cooke the Trip nil of whom were good The performance throughout stage settings etc Included was one of great merit and the jlresenta lion of this play In Salt Lake affords the theatregolng public u rare treat Tile play svill be repeated Wednesday and Friday evenings and Saturday afternoon Othello will be given tsithi Mr Tonight Othelo wi Jlvcn wih 11 James as Othelo and Mr Warde as lao |
