FARWELLS SPLEEN Against the President isx Tented on Beatty HIS CONFIRMATION OPPOSED The Illinoli Senator Personally Friendly GO Dubois and In This Manner Shows It to Harrison WASHINGTON March 8 Special telegram tele-gram to THE HERALD The Senate Judiciary Judici-ary committee reported favorably today on the nominations of Beatty and Pink ham The latter was promptly confirmed as marshal but when Wilson of Iowa asked that similar action be taken in Beattys case Farwell of Illinois objected It was a fatal objection Unlesi ho withdraws with-draws it the Senate will adjourn leaving the nomination unacted upon Under the rules of the Senate a person whose nomination nomi-nation has been reported favorably from a committee cannot be confirmed on the same day unless unanimous consent base cured A number of Beattys friends urged Farwell to withdraw his objection but he sullenly declined to do so He subsequently sub-sequently stated that this was his last opportunity op-portunity to strike the President a blow inasmuch as his term expires tomorrow Farwell dislikes the President and the latter lat-ter heartily reciprocates it Moreover Farwcll is personally friendly to Dubois and the Presidents treatment of Dubois In tho matter furnished an additional pretext for his action It is quite probable that the President will reappoint Beatty after Congress Con-gress adjourns and take chances of his being confirmed next winter
