Show FUNERAL SERVICES FOR REV. GE(hW. MARTIN The funeral of .Rev. George W. Martin, D. D. of Manti was held in the Presbyterian chapel of that city, Wednesday, March 5th at 2 o'clock P. M. Rev. Wm. M. Paden of Salt Lake City conducted the services and was assisted by Rev. W. H. Reherd, D. D., President of Westminster College of Salt Lake and four ministers min-isters of the Presbytery of Southern' Utah, Rev. Chas. Hamilton of Delta, Rev. T. G. Nethery of Richfield, and Rev R. B. Norton and T. M. Keu-seff Keu-seff of Mount Pleasant. Special music was furnished under the direction of Mr. J. H. Hornung and Mrs. L. F. Becker by a mixed q'uartett, the "Misses Sample and Carter Car-ter of Wasatch Academy and Messers Johnson "and Bird of Manti. The little chapel .was filled to capacity with devoted friends from far and near who came to pay final tribute to one whom they had loved. Mt. Pleasant was represented by a large contingency among whom, in addition to those mentioned above were Mrs. Keuseff, Mrs. Webb, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Wall and George Ronald Nilson. Dr. Martin was born in Hacking county. Ohio April 27, 1848. He graduated from Ohio University in 1876 and from Union Theological Seminary of New York City three years later. In 189 9 he received the degree of Doctor of Divinity from his Alma Mater. In the faH of 187 9 he came with his bride to Manti at the invitation of Rev. Duncan J.. McMillan and shortly thereafter was installed as Paster of the Presbyterian church here. At the time of his death he was the oldest resident Presbyterian Paster in the state and was regarded by many as the "Nestor" of the in-termountain in-termountain mission workers. During Dur-ing his long period of faithful service ser-vice he became intimately acquainted acquaint-ed with many people throughout the state and by them all was known as a kindly neighbor as well as a minister min-ister of the Gospel. He died at St. Marks Hospital, Salt Lake, last Saturday after an illness of nearly four months. The body was brought to Manti Tuesday and laid to rest after the services in the local cemetery beside his two daughters, Ruth and Jane. He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Mary H. and a son, Theadore D. |
