Show industrial SCHOOL BOARD HOLD THE REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING important matters arc considered by tho members boys to have uniforms the board of trustees of the state industrial du school met yesterday afternoon at 5 at the institution present were president A T wryght trustees N C and R T hume and secretary A number of important matters considered among which was the matter ot purchasing duck uniforms tor the boys to make a showing for them in connection with the military tactics and in the manual training department for the building committee president wryght reported hat a small amount of work Is yet necessary for the new female cottage before it Is ready for occupancy lie also reported that the contract of A W brown for putting up the fire escapes am to the windows of the cottage had been completed in a very satisfactory manner the cottage to date haa cost the report of superintendent E M allason All lson sr very fully covering all matters pertaining to the running 0 the school during the past month was received and filed the report shows there are forty beven boys and awen ty two girls in the institution in the blacksmith shoe and carpenter shops the boys are making a fine showing several pieces of work having been turned out which Is a great credit to the boys in the knitting factory laundry and school room the girls are accomplishing good results in the work shop the new dynamo and electrical plant was installed this week and is running in a satisfactory manner upon recommendation of the superintendent in paroles were granted to islah taylor and ernest jarels who have obtained the necessary number of merits to secure their parole tho boys will remain at the school until a place can be secured for them else certificates of discharge were ordered issued to walter teden andje alah taylor who are now on parole and have arrived at the age of 21 emily parsons who has been on parole was returned to the school for violating her parole two boys were received from salt lake on thursday evening the superintendent was authorized to prepare the room which Is east 0 the office to be used as a library the inmates are all taking a great interest in the library which now contains about six hundred volumes and periodicals of which the following is a list of these magazines being received at the present tiD pi two st nicholas three success two puck two judge one century one outing three youths companion one scientific american and supplement two life one harpers weekly and one harpers monthly the pockets and cards for the library for running it upon the card system so a record can be kept ot the books the inmates were reading were received from the publishers and will be installed an early date tho blank parole reports were also received and will be sent out to those out on parole the reports arc in booklets of twelve reports each and it Is the duty of the paroled inmate to fill out the report on the first of every month and mall it to the superintendent failure to do so twice will be deemed sufficient cause for the return of the inmate the reports arc arranged in such a manner that a full account of what the inmate has been doing during the month can be obtained the salary N waa raised to 65 per month the application of J A B stewart for position as electrician and machinist was filed the matter of having the sinks put in the kitchen of the female cot tago was referred to the superintendent the sum of was appropriated tor the purchase of duck uniforms together with leggings and fatigue hats for the boys and tho matter was left to the superintendent with power to act after allowing tho usual number ct bills and payrolls tho board adjourned tor one month |
