Show WILLIAM J LEMP COMMITS SUICIDE shoots himself in right temple with a revolver depression over death of son the cause s st louis feb 13 william J lemp president of the lemp brewing company committed today at his residence in south thirteenth street by shooting himself in the right temple with a revolver he died an hour later depression over the death ot his favorite son fred lemp three years ago and the loss of frederick pabst of milwaukee a lifelong life long friend Is believed to have been the cause for his rash act mr lemp who was 68 years old and a native of germany has lived in st louis for 48 years ha stood high in business and social circles and was reputed to be a millionaire mr lemp it seems was alone in the room when the shot was fired complaining pla ining of not feeling well he had not arisen as early as the other members of the family breakfast had been served and the eona had gone to their duties at the office and mrs lemp had gone uptown the servants were busying themselves their dally task A shot was heard from tho direction of mr lamps room the servants who hurried to tho apartment found mr lying on the floor a revolver clutched in his right band and a bullet wound in his temple ono of the servants ran to the brewery office nearby and summoned tho two sons edward and william As soon as they reached the house they dispatched servants for physicians several physicians who were seen at the house was not yet extinct but saw there was no hope of savins him he was still breathing when mrs lemp returned home and died a few minutes later without having recognized any one mr lemp lost interest in life tareo years ago when his son frederick died he was ahe brewers favorite gon the superintendent of tie brewery and the chief rel tanco of his er he died suddenly of heart failure and the blow to the father was so severe that he never recovered it at first he seemed to resist tho impulse to withdraw active life but after a time ho yielded to it and was seldom seen at his office without having any diseases which could be diagnosed he became feeble and gradually became despondent when fred pabst the milwaukee brewer died on jan 1 mr lemp was affected almost as much as he bad been by the death of his son |
