Scott Sinek, a freshman guard, riddled San Diego's defense for 25 points, mainly on pull-up jumpers off a blazing fastbreak ignited by Steve Trumbo, Greg Kite nd Fred Roberts. BYU also downed Hawaii 75-66 Friday. BYU shot 56 percent for each half and outrebound-ed outrebound-ed the Aztecs 52-38. The Cats also committed six fewer turnovers than San Diego and had 30 assists. San Diego shot 32 percent for the game. The Aztecs stayed close for a while. It was 22-17 with 7:55 to play in the first half and Aztec shooting ace Don Plum-mer Plum-mer had hit his first field goal try coming in off the bench. But would go 0 8 the rest of the way. BYU tossed in 44 out of 79 field goal attempts at-tempts and hit 18 out of 22 free throw attempts. San Diego State put in 23 out of 73 shots from the field and hit 20 out of 26 free throws. |
