Show ABOUT BEES. Editor Journal.-For the good of my friends, the honey bees, I send you my report of their workings and welfare, and my acquaintance with them. I have traveled all through this county and I find them free from disease. They are strong and healthy. I have not found one case of foul brood. Last year I worked at it, till I got rid of it, and this year the bee-keepers are reaping the benefits. About one-third of last year's bees died last winter, the winter being so long and cold. They died where they were not packed up well to keep out the frost and wet. The honey froze and the bees starved to death with plenty of honey in the hives. Those that gave their bees good winter quarters did well. Their queens laying during the winter, the stands came out strong in spring. There is one hundred and seventy-seven stands in the county, as follows. Logan, 78; Millville, ??, Providence 8, Hyrum 26, Wellsville, 7; Mendon, ??; Hyde Park, 12; Smithfield, 15; Newton, ?? Yours respectfully, Geo. Hibbard, Bee Commissioner |
