Show A WAGON WRECKED. On Saturday last an old gentleman from Providence named Jacob Striley, who is often seen in Logan driving a one-horse wagon, tied his horse in front of Bowring's harness shop near Z. C. M. I. on Main Street, went into the shop, purchased a halter, and attempted to put it on the horse. In doing so he untied the hitching strap, and took off the bridle from the horse. This set the animal free, and it started on a run. Mr. Striley clung to the harness and was thrown with considerable force on to the side walk as the excited animal approached the fountain in front of Z. C. M. I. The wagon struck a tree near the fountain, tearing off a hind wheel, when the horse turned to cross the street, and ran the vehicle against a tree near the corner of Tabernacle square, forcing a stop. The horse reared and plunged, tearing the harness some, but was caught and quieted by some bystanders. The wagon was a wreck the harness was considerably injured, and Mr. Striley's right arm was cut and bruised, though not strongly. All this resulted from taking the bridle off a horse while hitched to a vehicle on the street. |
