Show LOCALISMS. THE Island is building up rapidly. BUSINESS is lively in Logan, particularly in some lines. AUTUMN weather seems to have set in. Cool nights from henceforth. THE Cache Valley apple crop is becoming abundant in the market. LATELY there has been a numerous influx of questionable characters into this city. We could well spare their society. AS the scaffolding continues to disappear from the Temple, the beauty of the structure becomes more apparent. IT is said that the illicit liquor sellers of this city are for ever ill (Everill). Does this indicate that they are sick of the light? IT is to be hoped that the officers will catch the party or parties who committed the robbery at the Logan House last Saturday night. COMPLAINT has been made of noisome nuisances in the shape of pigsties, etc., on a certain portion of Second street. The officers will be after the owners if the nuisances are not abated. A CITIZEN of Logan has observed that regularly, for some time past, at about midnight, a breeze from the east starts up, blows over the city for from one to two hours, and then subsides. A PARTY of several persons who lately went fishing up Blacksmith's Fork canyon, report that they saw great numbers of front in the water, but the fish would not bite, either at a fly or bait. ON Friday last a man who had been subpoenaed as a witness for the prosecution in the case against Connor for liquor selling, was fined $25 for contempt of court in disobeying the subpoena. THIS morning, on one of our principal streets, a man was heard cursing "Mormons" who had more than one wife. It is needless to add that he is one of the worst characters that ever came to this town, as is shown by recent disclosure in the police court. THE performance of "Evadue" at the theatre last Saturday night, was exceedingly well rendered. We have rarely seen our home talent do better. the farce of "A Kiss in the Dark" passed off in lively style, and was well rendered with the exception of one or two hitches in the "business." A CORRESPONDENT from a town in this county sends us a report of a casualty, which had appeared almost verbatim in one of our contemporaries before his letter was received. As published it bore the nom de plume that he appends. Duplicate reports of such affairs furnished in this way, are not appreciated by newspapers. WE have dining the past week sent out a number of accounts to subscribers and others, many of whom have not yet answered the call made for several weeks past at the head of our "local" columns. We should be pleased if all interested would notify us by letter or in person that we may be enabled to judge of their intentions in regard to the Journal. |
