Show FIRE AT HYDE PARK. Editor Journal.-Yesterday, between one and two o'clock, a house belonging to Brother P. D. Griffeth took fire from the stove pipe and before help could arrive the roof was all ablaze. By extra exertion those who arrived there first succeeded in getting the furniture and most of the household effects out uninjured. Very soon the crowd that gathered organized into a bucket brigade, and in a short time extinguished the flames, saving only the shell of the house. The loss does not amount to a great deal; but it caused much excitement. A liberal subscription was given by the citizens which will cover a greater portion of the loss. It seems that nobody can be blamed for the misfortune. Wm. M. Daines, Hyde Park, Sept. 4, 1882. |
