Show PIONEERS HOLD ANNUAL EVENT The eighth annual celebration of the Mount Pleasant Pioneer Historical Histor-ical Association held at Mount Pleas- ant Friday, March 23, 1917, honoring ! the pioneers who crossed the plains 'and settled Mount Pleasant in 1859, was one of unusual success. At 2 o'clock p. m. there was a ; great gathering at the. North ward j chapel where a very appropriate program was rendered. James Lar-sen, Lar-sen, president of the association, presided pre-sided over the meeting. Newel K. Young was the principal speaker, eulogizing eul-ogizing the pioneers and praising their work. Songs for the occasion were rendered ren-dered by quartets and doiuble quartets quar-tets being especially prepared. . The officers elected were as fol-lows:James fol-lows:James Larsen, president, C. W. Anderson, vice president; Miss Hilda Madsen, secretary and James Monsen, Mon-sen, treasurer; together with Ferdinand Ferdi-nand Ericksen, E. C. Johnson, Joseph Jo-seph Monsen, James Borg, Joseph Seely, Mrs. Henry Ericksen, John 11. 3eely, Mrs. A. G. Oman, Mrs. Thomas West, R. N. Bennett, Ole Hansen, T. Madsen and Mrs. Wm. Olson. In the evening there was a dance liven at the Opera House. Beautiful iecorations, consisting of a large portrait por-trait swung across the hall presenting scene of the first camp pitched by the pioneers where Mount Pleasant low stands, were well arranged. merican flags were in abundance, intermingled with wild flowers, to-' to-' ether with pine and cedar boughs. The grand march was led by Peter Monsen. age 87, and Mary Wilcox. ?ge 86, both pioneers of 1859. Refreshments were served in abundance. The old favorite song, "Silver rineads Among the Cold," was most -rant ifully sung by the south ward Mutual quartette with string accompaniment. accom-paniment. The hall was filled nearly to its -apacity and all enjoyed a most pleasant day and evening. |
