Show Need for Immunization Stressed by Miss Napier By BERYL NAPIER ' Publio Health Nurse The general impression of some people of the county is that the danger from typhoid fever belongs to past history and that it is no longer necessary to guard against an epidemic. With the pasteurization pasteur-ization of milk, a legal require? ment in many places, the enforcement enforce-ment of pure food laws, and the installation of systems for. the purification of water supplies; it is reasonable to believe that only an occasional outbreak is possible. The fact cannot be overlooked, however, that systems for the purification of water supplies are mechanical ones; that mechanical systems can go wrong; and that if there is a break, even a few seconds, especially in rural areas, contamination can result and typhoid ty-phoid fever can become epidemic. (Continued on page five) Immunization Again (Continued from first page) It must be remembered, also, that the continuous movement of the population during war adds a new hazard in the fight to check the spread of the disease. There is one more chance for the people of St. George to guard against typhoid fever. Your last chance, Friday, Mar. 24th at 8 p. m., in the City Office. |
