CroUcr, of tho Now York llro department, who has Just been elected to tho presidency of the International Society of Klro Engineer!, Engin-eer!, In session In Now York, achieved another honor only a few days ago in his reinstatement as chief after having been suspended under charges. Notwithstanding tho fact that Mr. Croker Is a favorito nephew of tho famous Tammany chief, ho Is said to have won his way from tho foot of tho laddr to his present high position on his merit as a fire fighter. Ho Joined tho department in 1884 and had steadily stead-ily advanced, stop by step, until 1890. when ho was mado chief by tho retirement retire-ment of KIre Chief Bonner.
