Show Third Presbyterian Church Acquaintances of Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln Barker, formerly at Westminster West-minster College of this city, will be delighted to know that Mrs. Barker's recently published book entitled "Yesterday Today" is being favorably noticed by the reviewers. It is about the Ozarks that nobody knows except the Inhabitants, and the back country living an eighteenth century life. The text and photographs are good The City Library has just placed this book in circulation. Thanksgiving was especially observed ob-served at the Third Church in several ways. On November 16 tee morning sermon spoke of the Grace that returns upon us as we thankfully recall the past blessings bless-ings of the individual, the church or the nation. There is first, the confidence it give us as we face the unknown future. God will be present there as He always has been present. And so it steels our hearts for present tasks. And gives us courage to be true to our allegiance to the Divinely given mission which is ours. A Stewardship sermon on November Nov-ember 23 and a special offering for the mission work in our land, where the many poor, the un churched crowding into the defense de-fense centers and the special needs of army camps challenge us. were outstnding features. The religion of our forefathers "awaken in us a sense of man's own dignity that will not accept enslavement; at the same time it makes him so aware of the dignity of his fellowmen that be refuses to enslave them." The above words of a modern leader constitute a challenge to all re-"gious re-"gious people today. Let us refuse re-fuse to be a party to the tyranny of lust, of race, of economics of of government. The Ladies' groups of the church offer an inviting array of worthwhile worth-while activities. The Ladies' Aid moots on the second Tuesday of each month and the Jessie Lee Eiiis and the Woman's Missionary Mission-ary Society meet on the two suc- eroding Tuesdays. Practical service, ser-vice, study a"d dramatic programs, pro-grams, and social events are all a part of their work. |
