Teacher begins new position with state dept. A Springville girl, Miss Mary Gay Hatch, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hatch, 978 East Center, has been appointed appoint-ed new specialist in the state department of Public Instruc- tion for services to the mentally mental-ly retarded. She assumed her new duties this month. A graduate of Springville High School and LDS Seminary, Semi-nary, Miss Hatch taught in the Jordan School District, until taking over her new position. She received a bachelor's degree de-gree in elementary education from BYU and a master's degree de-gree in guidance from Arizona State University at Tempe, Arizona. Before going to Jordan District, Dis-trict, she taught elementary grades in Alpine and Granite School Districts and worked in skils improvement service as a graduate assistant at BYU, where she also furthered her graduate study in supervision super-vision and administration. She is now working on her doctorate. doctor-ate. Miss Hatch will provide leadership lead-ership in organzation of statewide state-wide programs of instruction and training for the mentally retarded. She will also work with other state agencies responsible re-sponsible for mentally retarded children and adults. Home economies teacher, Mrs. Roy Straight has a cooking cook-ing class made up entirely of boys. The unusual aspect of this class at Vinson High School is that the boys are learning to become short-order cooks in restaurants. |
