Show Letters to the Editor ; Ken Curious Frosh Being just a freshman, I am curious about many issues aired in the Chronicle. However, I seldom have the background on any issue to warrant my taking part in a discussion on that issue. Thus, I feel a certain cer-tain satisfaction when I become "enlightened" on some issue by someone who is interested in informing students like me. With this thought, I would like to thank those crusaders who are trying to help enlighten enlight-en me and the apathetic student stu-dent body. In particular, I am glad (and I hope the whole student body is glad) that a recent problem has been "aired." This problem is the "criminal waste" of $383,000 this year. I agree that the reason for this waste is that student government was not given the power of self-regulation self-regulation and a measure of ,control over student environment. environ-ment. Such an obvious reason as this is good enough for me. Besides, this information was probably not made available to the student body until it was aired yesterday. I'll bet those corrupt politicians of ASUU didn't even make public their expenditures aside from a full page in the Chronicle (obviously (obvious-ly trying to hide their guilt.) So, students, under the call of Zane Miskin, let us shake off our apathy. Let us remove the "waste and corruption . . . prevalent on the campus scene." Let us replace "pablum, mediocrity and me-too-ism" with thoughtfulness Q&e Mr. Miskin's thoughtful analysis and reason for this corruption) effectiveness and positive programs. pro-grams. One such positive program pro-gram with effectiveness could be Miskin's program for improvement im-provement of student officers: (1) to develop a meaningful platform before they file, (2) to debate and defend their platform plat-form with vigor and logic and (3) to offer positive solutions and choices. All these must be lacking from present officers or else they wouldn't be included in this "enlightened plan." If we all reread Miskin's article, we shall find the inspiration and guidelines to solve this problem prob-lem of corrupt government.
