Folk Concert Slated Tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the Browsing Room, Polly and the Valley Boys will present a concert con-cert of folk music from the high green valleys of the Southern mountains. Polly and the Valley Boys describe the music as "having "hav-ing sadness in it, as well as a kind of shy good humor, which, because of its directness and honesty, is a little out of the ordinary." THE MEMBERS of the group are Polly Stewart, Dave Roy-lance, Roy-lance, and Bruce Phillips. Polly, a senior majoring in history, is currently chairman of Spotlight Committee and was editor of "Pen" last year. She plays the autoharp, guitar, kazoo, and spoons. Dave is a mechanical engineering engine-ering graduate and will receive his doctorate . next year. His specialities are the five-string banjo and the guitar. Bruce, on the guitar and mandolin, lives in Salt Lake with his wife and three children and works for the state government. The three, who have been entertaining en-tertaining as a group for about a year and a half, have appeared in concerts throughout the state. They were the featured performers perform-ers at the National Old-Time Fiddle Contest in Weiser, Idaho, last summer and have completed a concert tour under contract with the Utah Historical Society. Recent appearances in the Salt Lake area include shows at the Cafe Abyssie and at Park City. Tonight's concert is sponsored by the Special Events Committee Commit-tee and is free to all students. |
