Show A NW COMDINATION ! Is Looked For in the Idaho Senatorial Fight, and Dubois May Get Left. BUT HE STILL HAS THE POLE, And the Senatorial Persimmon Will Drop to Him Unless tho Field Combination Com-bination Works. Boise Crrr, Idaho, Dec. 12. Special to The Times. There is an air of ex-pectoncy ex-pectoncy about headquarters this morning. morn-ing. So far as appearances go, there is no change iu the senatorial situation, but a number of caucusses were held last night and a now combination is looked for. Tho Dubois organ this morning still harps on a compromise by the election of three scuators at once, and this must be taken as the wish of Mr. Dubois, coming from the source it does. This is also mule probablo by the fact that Dubois, Claggett and Shoup held a long conference last night. Claggett, however, how-ever, lacks two votes of being able to treat with Dubois, but as soon as these two votes cau be found a voto will be forced. Last night it was announced that Delaiuar hud bought up the democratic votes which, with his two votes, his own and that of Hawkins of Owyhee, would give him 120, McConnell has been flirting with the democrats and if at any time it will do him any good he will get that entire vote. It was also announced that Claggett had succeeded iu forming a new combination com-bination and that before 8 o'clock today to-day he would be a United States senator. sena-tor. Careful investigation however, failed to find any basis for this claim. His friends intimated that he would capture cap-ture live of Dubois' votes but this cannot be authorized until tho voto is taken. The only possiple way of defeating de-feating Dubois is tho capture of the democratic vote by some man who can hold all other republicans together. Claggct might do that, but it is not probable. The Shoup men all favor tho three senator idea and are pinning their hopes on that. It will, however, be adopted only as a last resort, and when all other combination schemes have failed. |
