The dealings in the stock market after 12 o'clock were marked by a severe raid upon Union Pacific and other leading shares, during which the lowest prices of the day were reached. Union Pacific dropped If per cent from the noon figure, and, at its lowest, it was 2 per cent below the best prices of the forenoon. fore-noon. St. Paul was very active and also reached its lowest for the day. A depression of short duration and a sharp recovery occurred which brought St. Paul up to 52 and Union Pacific to 401,. Sugar refineries suffered the most, falling fall-ing away 25 per cent from the noon price to 52, and recovered only a portion por-tion of the loss. Many active stocks reached the best prices of the day on a rebound, and while all improvement was not held, at 2:15 o'clock tho market was quiet and firm and close to the best prices of tho day. |
