Show Carbon. Wasatch Academy Tilt Ends In Deadlock Carbon's last minute drive for a touchdown fell short by ten yards, and as a result the Coal Diggers could gain no more than a 7-7 tie with Wasatch Academy eleven here Friday. However, Carbon had an edge in the number num-ber of first downs making yards seven times as compared to six for the visitors. Wasatch scored in the first three minutes of play on two forward for-ward passes and a brilliant 20-3'ard 20-3'ard run by Wycherly. A. Owens kicked goal. The fact that they scored so early in the game clearly clear-ly surprised the Sanpete bunch, who had a hard time making yards after that. Carbon retaliated early in the second quarter, when Captain Paul Holbrook made the best run cf the day, going 38 yards through the entire Wasatch team for a touchdown. Extra point was scored when Gcni tossed a short pass to Gunderson, who stepped over the goal line. The locals were outclassed in. the first quarter, making no first downs, while Wasatch scored four. Carbon was superior in the second period, the third was about even and the locals again held an edge In the final quarter. In this period, Carbon was twice within ten yards of the goal but coulo. not put the pigskin over. In the middle of the last quarter, the locals lo-cals blocked a Wasatch punt, the ball bounding to the 15-yard line where a Carbon player fell on it. The final drive by Carbon was featured by a. forward passing attack, and until that time Coach Merrill's charges had not been able to gain an inch with passes. Carbon had a distinct advantage advan-tage in punting, Gunderson booting boot-ing the ball high, which gave the ends plenty of time to get down and stop the receiver. Hjlbrcok played another brilliant bril-liant game, but Wasatch played expressly to stop his long runs With ihe result that he did not get away 'as much as usual, rat-terlck rat-terlck played excellently at end, while Demman at tackle and Corey Cor-ey at guard were- hard to get through. Nephi Gunderson, although al-though he was on the receiving end of two passes, failed to add much to Carbon's offense. He lacked aggressiveness, and should have been able to gain more yards that be did with the opportunities opportuni-ties which came his way.
