Show f Escalante News By Marlene Haws 826-4859 It finally rained. Cats and dogs. And even left some little "poodles" all around. But worse than that it left hailstones, some of which measured mea-sured an inch in diameter. Luckily it didn't last too long, so hopefully, the gardens were not hurt much. Daughters of the Utah Pioneers officers Lana Christian and Sheila Wooley went in search of the Centennial wagon train last week. They located it between Salina and Scipio where it had stopped for lunch. Sheila and Lana visited, took pictures and even enjoyed a free lunch with the group. They were disappointed that they didn't find anyone from this area on the trek. They did find one man from Emery County who knew Lana's father fa-ther and another man from Salina. The Escalante Ladies Reunion held in Boulder and hosted by Connie Jepsen was a big success. A fun time for all who attended. Take note, all you ladies who didn't go! Edna Mclnelly Andreg and her daughter, Shirley Ramsay came from Green River and brought first-timer first-timer Earlene Woolsey Nelson with them. We all knew Earlene right away because she looks just like her mother, LaVern Woolsey. The Alvey sisters Malita Butler, Richfield; Elva Barney and Cuma Demas, both of Sandy were there. From Bountiful were Jessie Heaps Giles and Charlene Heaps Norton. Some we had not seen in a long time were the Mitchell sisters, Flora Baker Marchant, Peoa and Naida Mclnelly, West Jordan. The Schow sisters were there, Muriel Davenport, Taylorsville and Maxine Alvey, Aurora. From Boulder were Julee Lyman, Idona Haws, Veda Behunin, Renon Petersen and Connie Jepsen. This reunion will be held in June of next year at Richfield, so mark it on your calendars ladies and come and renew old acquaintances. I forgot to mention Vada Martin as one of the hostesses of the Alvey reunion in Richfield. Sorry, Vada. We missed you in Boulder! The Munsons all gathered at Singletree campgrounds for their annual reunion. No one from that group reported in, but I hear they really had a big turnout. Also reunioning at Blue Spruce campgrounds were the Coleman families. They also have a large family group. Iona Alvey reports that the book her late husband, Edson Alvey wrote has gone to press and should be available in time for the 24th of July celebration. Brent and Patrice Cottam and Ed and Camille Shakespear took a lit-(See lit-(See Escalante News On Page 4-A) Escalante News From Page 2-A tie tour down into Nevada, to St. George for dental appointments and back to Panguitch Lake to stay overnight, so they were there early for the telephone company party. After attending the company, Lane and Geraldine Liston met their two granddaughters, Emily and Jenifer Liston of Saint Johns, Ariz, to Richfield and brought them here to stay for a few weeks. Ann Haws, her LDS Bishop and four other chaperones brought their MIA youth group from St. George. They visited Devils Rock Garden, Calf Creek Falls, Haws pasture in Boulder and other points of interest. They danced at the church. The boys camped on the lawn at DeLane Griffins and the girls stayed at the Ben Porter residence. The annual LDS First Ward breakfast was enjoyed at Posey Lake at 8 a.m. on Saturday morning. morn-ing. They had a good turnout in spite of all .the competition with reunions and everything else that was going on. As of this writing, Betty P. Alvey is in the hospital in Panguitch. Hopefully, by the time you read this she will be home and feeling a lot better. The senior citizens citi-zens will miss her good cooking so here's to a speedy recovery. Of course, we miss her too. Danny and Lois Spencer had daughter, Judy Green, Mesquite, Nev. and her family here for a week. Oma Wooley Procell, Provo, came to town and stayed overnight. She visited with Clella Woolsey and Mary Griffin, with whom she used to play paper dolls. She also visited the old Wooley ranch in the north fields, which is now owned by Bob Munson. It looks a lot different dif-ferent now than when Oma was a young girl. Eldon Griffin made a trip to Billings, Mont, to bring his two daughters, Misty and Sarah, home for their summer visit. Then he and Angie went to California for the wedding of Angie's son, Frank. |
