Show Varsity scouts from the Powell Point district did some much needed trail work at Pine Lake on June 6 and 7 in cooperation with PINE LAKE The Forest Service, varsity scouts from the Powell Point District and their sponsors joined together to accomplish ac-complish much needed work projects pro-jects at the Pine Lake Recreation Area. On June 6 and 7 the scouts and their leaders from Escalante, Cannonville and Tropic gathered together at the John's Valley Group Site for their two-day annual district dis-trict service trek. Six boys demonstrated demon-strated their leadership skills by organizing or-ganizing and completing their Eagle projects during the two days. Ryan Cottam, Marshal Thompson and Danny Slack completed com-pleted trails from the campground to the lake and a scenic loop trail from the John's Valley Group Site Forest Service personnel. The trails will provide enjoyable and improved hiking experiences for the many visitors in the area. Varsity Scouts And Forest Service Tackle Trail Projects At Pine Lake to Pine Lake, making an enjoyable hiking experience for many visitors in the area. Cole Twitchell, Jason Bybee and Layne Mathews installed trail markers, fencing and barriers which will manage traffic flows and protect pro-tect fragile lake and stream side vegetations. Tremendous support for these varsity scouts and their projects was provided by local sponsors including in-cluding Rod and Gary Syrett of Ruby's Inn, the Thompson family of Garfield Ready Mix and the Twitchell family of Cannonville, all who provided equipment and manpower man-power for these projects. In excess of 300 volunteer hours were spent completing the service projects. The Forest Service appre ciates the time, energy and financial support given and they hope the public, whome they represent, will be able to enjoy these improvements improve-ments for years to come. |
