Distant Wind with Eilly White up takes the winner's circle after winning win-ning the Iron County Futurity and one of the richest purses in Utah racing rac-ing at the Iron County Fair Race Meet. Owner is Stan Mecham of Escalante and trainer is E. D. Haws. Races Highlight iron County Fair Two fine racing programs were a part of the annual Iron County Fair held last week end with some of the finest horses in this area gathering at the Parowan track on Saturday Sat-urday and Monday to vie for a total of $2750 in purses of- fered by1 the racing committee. To this was added the entry fees in several of the featured races and seven fine blankets went to the winners in seven of the big races. All of these made the two day meet one of the richest meets as far as the horsemen 2nd; Red Menace, Rulon Lyman, Ly-man, 3rd. Second race, 6 Furlongs, Silky Sil-ky Sox, Homer Peterson, 1st; Air Trol, Pry or & Oakden, 2nd; Unbondable, Rudy Vozola, 3rd. Third race, Ms -Mile and 70 yards, Lucky Bob, Paul Bran-ham Bran-ham , 1st; Big and Strong, are concerned anywhere in the state of Utah. And adding to the fine afternoon af-ternoon of entertainment were the exciting Pony Express race and rodeo features, all of which went off with precision that didn't allow a minute of time to be wasted on each of the afternoons. Seven races were offered for race fans on Saturday with total to-tal purses posted in the programs pro-grams totaling $1,000. Winners of the opening day races were as follows: First race, 350 yards, Mr. Spoof Bar 1st, Vino Boy 2nd, and Mr. Mormon Bar 3rd. Owners Own-ers were Mr. and Mrs. Blake Robinson, Floyd Ence and Robert Ro-bert Ott, respectively. Second race, V2 mile and 70 yards: Japala, Pryor & Oakden, Oak-den, 1st; Rick Sweep, Brent & Linden Hatch, 2nd; Yea Bull, Reed Carter, 3rd. Third race, 4V2 furlongs, Jump Steady, Clark Swapp, 1st; Bothwell Weed, Linford Orton, 2nd; Salty Tang, E. D. Haws, 3rd. Fourth race, 4Vz furlongs, Loren, Woodrow Griffiths,, 1st; Bulls Lassie, Bud Carter, and Regretful Maria, Rulon Lyman, Ly-man, tied for 2nd. Fifth race, 4',2 furlongs, Shady Sha-dy Vee, Rulon Lyman, 1st; Northern Nome, Black and Wright, 2nd; Just A Pal, Tex Marshall, 3rd. Sixth race, Three furlongs, Bunny's Gold Bar, Rulon Lyman, Ly-man, 1st; Sorrel Dick, Clark Benson & Wayne Graser, 2nd; Lucky Bob, Paul Branham, 3rd. Seventh race, 7 furlongs, Silky Sil-ky Fox, Homer Peterson, 1st; Kalitan, Black & Wright, 2nd; Lynn's Error, 3rd. W. Haws, 3rd. Seventh (feature race) 7 furlongs, fur-longs, Distant Wind, Stan, Meacham, 1st; Sweeping. Sand, Kent Miller, 2nd; Bothwell Weed, Linford Orton, 3rd. Eighth race, AV2 furlongs, Rich Sweep, Brent & Linden Hatch, 1st; Bull's Lassie, Bud Carter, 2nd; Governor's cap, Paul Branham, 3rd. Seven blankets, donated by businessmen of the area, were given away to winners in the feature races, three the first day and four the final day. Donors were State Bank of Southern Utah, Lins A. G. and Foodtown, the Parowan Dairy Freez, Bank of Iron County, Sullivan's Cafe, Jolley's Ranch Wear and the Fair Board. In addition, the three top jockeys riding in the meet were selected and each was presented with a shirt by a former resident, of Parowan, Grant (Shady) Lowder of Sha-winners Sha-winners were Bruce Peterson, Billie White and Leslie Hulet. Announcing the races and other events of the fine afternoon after-noon entertainments was Don Applegate, former resident of this city, who with his family, fam-ily, came from their home (in Idaho Falls for the week lend.
