Archcologlcal discoveries of great Importance lmvo been made In tho excavations ex-cavations at AlUei Salnte Relne the nnctont stronghold of tho Gauls which was defended against Caesar by Ver-clngetorix. Ver-clngetorix. Af the spot known as Saint Pore cemotery, near tho sixth-century Christian Chris-tian basilica discovered last year, M. Pernet, who la directing the searches, has exhumed the skeleton of a warrior, having at his right side a splendid iron sword and at his left side a dagger of Blmllar metal, with tho worm-eaten remains re-mains cf a wooden sheath. At a short distance away three ancient an-cient hunting knives were found, together to-gether with a bronze ornament a marvelous piece of work, representing the head of an animal. This latter is considered the finest specimen of its kind unearthed so far in tho excavations, excava-tions, and has been placed in the Alesla musoum at Salnte Relne. |
