Show West Valley Claims Co. Employees By MARK D. MICKELSEN FARMINGTON How does the organization of West Valley City affect Davis County Coun-ty almost 20 miles to the north? COM. MORRIS Swapp, commenting Wednesday on the number of county employees em-ployees who have recently stepped out to join the new West Salt Lake town, said West Valley's "starting up" has claimed some of the county's coun-ty's key people most notably not-ably former Planning Director Joe Moore, who Com. Swapp referred to as probably "the best planning director in the state." But West Valley recruiters did not stop with Mr. Moore. Com. Swapp said they claimed a paramedic and almost convinced con-vinced the county fire chief to move. In each case, West Valley Val-ley has offered the county employees em-ployees greater salaries and many have accepted. ASKED WHY so many county people terminated their employment in recent months. Com. Swapp noted cases where women leave because of pregnancy, others who are not the main family breadwinner quit when other family members mem-bers must move. But the main reason in recent re-cent months remains the incorporation incor-poration effort at West Valley City. "They've (WVC) hired some exceptional people," he said. JOE MOORE, the commissioner commis-sioner explained, "just wanted a bigger challenge." Commending Com-mending the former planning director on his ambition, Mr. Swapp said "he's going to the top." Aside from an increased salary sal-ary offer, Com. Swapp said Mr. Moore will probably get greater recognition in West Valley City that he did in Davis County. AS TO THE fire chief offer, Com. Swapp said Chief Brent Argyle refused the West Valley Val-ley battalion chief position despite a considerable salary increase. The commissioner gave no reason for Chief Argyle's denial of the offer, but said, "I was glad to see him stay." Com. Sw app said the county will continue to improve the current ment system for the benefit of the cmplovees. but was cautious. "Se have upgraded up-graded the salary of the cmplovees cm-plovees until 70 percent of the biklcet cs to vtl.u u'v" he S.lkl "OM .V) rx-rcrnt (!'X V to the dcpai1iiK-nl." " J |
