Show Connel Receives PhD At Illinois Michael Connell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Clarke of Panguitch and the late John Connell, has received his Ph D in educational psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He and his wife Raleen have been residing at Savoy, 111., during his doctoral work. He received his BS degree in elementary education and his MS degree in educational studies from the University of Utah. While in Illinois, Connell worked as a research assistant for both the Institute for Research on Human Development, and the Learning and Development Program at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. During the same period, he worked as a mathematics consultant for Urbana School District Dis-trict 1 16 and was a representative to the Illinois Assessment Advisory Committee. Prior to moving to Illinois, Connell served as director of Region Re-gion 11 of the Utah Council for Computers in Education, was a member of the Mathematics Curricular Reform committee and Teacher Re-certification Standards Committee in Mathematics for the state of Utah. He was director of the Utah Slate Office of Education Garfield School District's Productivity Project in Contemporary Contempo-rary Curriculum, and co-director of the Tele-Learning Project, and taught fifth and sixth grades. Conncll s doctoral dissertation was titled "ProcessConcept Analy- i iliillifili Dr. Michael Connell sis of Sixth Grade Mathematics." The results of his research and related work were used by Urbana School District 116 in establishing its K-12 mathematics curriculum and assessment policies. Connell has accepted a professorship in the Department of Educational Studies at the University of Utah where he will teach methods courses for elementary elemen-tary mathematics teachers, graduate courses in cognitive science, assist in computer assisted instruction and continue his research into mathematical cognitive strategies and uses of computers in education. Mrs. Connell worked at the University of Illinois, as a visiting research specialist for the Learning and Development Program and as an administrative assistant for the Farm Management Company. She is a daughter of Lorin and Shirley Jones of Enoch. |
