Show Prescribed Burn To Help Range A prescribed burn of some 300 acres northwest of Panguitch last week is expected to improve wildlife habitat, fishing conditions, and recreational activities. The June 28-30 exercise was completed by the Bureau of Land Management on lands under its care. A prescribed burn is intended to remove fuels that prohibit normal growth. The area which is known as Thrce-Mile Creek will be re-seeded re-seeded sometime this fall. Burning the fuels under controlled conditions condi-tions also helps to avoid fires that could be started accidently, getting out of control before firefighters can get the upper hand. Fuels that continue to collect increase the danger, so periodical controlled burning has proved to be a helpful method to avoid more serious fires. New growth that will soon take place, aided by reseeding, will provide pro-vide forage for wildlife. |
