Bruce Morse 1 , llAi Roger Haran Do you think ski areas should be held liable for injuries sustained on the slopes? Bruce Morse In a word, no. I think a skier has to assume some responsibility for his own safety. Usually, when a skier gets hurt by hitting a rock, stump or lift tower, it's because he's skiing out of control. Jim Gaddis Because it's an attorney's world, hell no! They should not be held liable. Absolutely Ab-solutely not. The ski industry should file a class action suit against the guy who sued Stratton Mt. Roger Haran It's ridiculous to even consider it! Jim Gaddis fir" , Henry Hall Henry Hall No! Sandra Miller Dear Editor: Park City Ski Corporation was advised on February 16, 1978, that a Use Permit had been issued to Anderson Lumber Company for a separate lumber yard for contractor sales, on a l'4 acre triangular area immediately immed-iately behind the 'existing ;yard across the street from-' from-' the Claim jumper and Home-' stake Conodminiums. All access to the yard would be from the residential road serving the Homestake and Claimjumper Condos. The result would obviously be heavy commercial traffic on a residential street. Park City Ski Corporation developed the two Condo projects with the intention that the road to them would be residential for the protection protect-ion of residents and their children and intends to try to protect that principle. r . , The subject area is zoned for ; commercial use and it may1 be reached through the existing lumber yard or from the road on the southeast side of the yard (same as the City Corporation yard road. ) There is no reason to have V IE " - ' Y I Phil Wahl Tim Mertens It's my feeling that the only time the resort should be held responsible is when they've definitely been negligent. Skiers should use good discretion and common sense and not blame resorts for mistakes they are making. Resorts can't pad lift towers anymore because if one is padded, they all have to be padded. The public's done that to itself. The resorts aren't trying to take advantage of the public from a safety standpoint. If they were to take advantage of the public, they would only be taking advantage advan-tage of themselves. Lift passes and insurance premiums are high enough as it is and court cases will only make them higher. Phil Wahl If you're on the equipment the chair or the gondola and it fails like it did at Vail, the resort is responsible. If it's an individual in-dividual accident caused by your own careless skiing, it should not be the slope's fault. I suggest all resorts have patrolmen arrest young, wild skiers who go over, around and through your legs! Francis Douthit If I got hurt because of the negligence of a resort, I would never come back. I would hope they're safety conscious, anyway. They should be held responsible for accidents. Tim Mertens Francis Douthit We'd like your stamp -of approval. As I understand it the Use Permit was issued upon the mistaken declaration by Anderson An-derson Lumber Co. that they had notified adjacent owners. own-ers. The statute requires notification of all property owners which are 75 feet or less from the subject property. proper-ty. Park City Ski Corporation owns land adjacent to the subject property in two places and was not notified. City officials have advised me they will enforce the notification provision and therefore I have asked for a new hearing with proper notification to all adjacent property owners. I feel that all owners of Homestake and Claimjumper Claimjump-er Condos should also be notified. They are the ones most affected by this decision deci-sion and should have input in the matter, even though they may be a few feet more than the 75 feet distance required by statute. Ray Johnson President Park City Ski Corporation Thanks! Dear Editor: On behalf of the Park City Ski Team, I would like to ' thank Pokey Richardson and ; Parley's Summit Resort for "hosting the annual mid-sea-' son Ski Team party.
