That was the problem for the Clearfield Falcons as the Davis Darts took control of Tuesdays preseason game by outscoring the in both free throws and field goals. This contest was like any other, both teams going tooth and nail to keep in the game, both trying different combinations. Davis shot out of the starting gates and took the Falcons out of their game. Davis coach Jay Welk had warned his team that w hen the Falcons went to a zone defense they were extremely tough. Clearfields defense gave the Darts problems and kept the Falcons in the game, which the Falcons. surprised Clearfield coach Ray Meibos said We played tough defense and we were surprised that we were so close at the half only we kept the presbehind sure on the Darts until the fourth quarter. At that point Meibos put his team in a man to man defense and Davis started to hit on all eight pistons. "We went in the man to man defense and stayed too long and Davis made us pay. We hurried our shots and panicked on defense. Davis is too good of a team to not capitalize on those mistakes, I take responsibility for that mistake. Just like a light switch going on the Davis Darts would hit every shot they put up. Led by Kelby Miller, Davis took control of the game by hitting shots all within five feet of the basket. This was not the entire story as the Darts refused to let the Falcons get rebounds which frustrated the Falcons even more. Davis coach Jay Welk said, We felt that we had to attack the basket in the fourth quarter which led to easy shots and we did just that.
